About the Author

My name is Jackie Bahati.
Bahati means "happiness" in Swahili. But I haven't always felt that happiness.
I am a mother of four children – and this is my first children's book. My own childhood wasn't always easy. There were times when I felt alone – lost between two worlds.
This book emerged from that deep, personal place. I write for all children in this world – regardless of where they come from or what path they take. For every little heart that needs courage and seeks hope – and should be reminded how brightly it can shine from within.
Because every child deserves a story that shows that even after difficult moments, something beautiful can emerge – full of light, friendship, and new paths.
And a story that embraces them and whispers:

You are not alone.

What readers are saying

Beautifully written and full of hope. To see my mother's childhood become a book is truly incredible. I am her daughter and I am so proud of her journey and what she has created. The pain she went through has been transformed into something so beautiful. It will be a blessing for many children all over the world. I love you Mom

— Zoe

Dear Mom. I read your book and I had tears in my eyes. Not from sadness, but from joy and pure pride. This book gave me a glimpse into your past, and the more I read, the more I understood what you went through and how incredibly strong you truly are. The pictures deeply moved me. They show Kenya, your home, your world before you came to Switzerland... Nakupenda... Get this book, you will be touched!

— Timothy

Bahati's story touched me from the very beginning. Through images and words, her experiences became close and tangible for me. It shows how early in life a young person can face great challenges. The book aims to remind us to truly see others and take action. Our help gives others hope and fosters community. Let yourself be moved!

— Martina F.
